Located in the Waikoloa King’s Shop, Original Big Island Shave Ice Co. is the island favorite for Shaved Ice.

Started in 1957, Lorraine Kaono, had a food truck named “Lorraine’s Snack Mobile”. She sold various items like plate lunches, candies, beverages, and of course; Shaved Ice. She first set up shop in Kawaihae at Spencers Beach Park where she was very popular amongst the beachgoers. After a few years, she then moved along the west side of the coast and ended up at Kahalu’u Beach Park where she remained for 20 years. Known as the “Shave Ice Lady”, she taught her kids the nuances of creating the perfect shaved ice. Forty years and four generations later, we’ve mastered the art of Shave Ice and have evolved the simple dessert into so much more.
